Donald "Yank" Smith

MSGT (Retired) Donald M. “Yank” Smith, 86, of Prosperity, died Sunday, July 5, 2015, at his residence.

Born on September 17, 1928, in Barnesville, OH, he was a son of the late Hoyt Wiers and Sarah Elizabeth Smith. He was retired from the United States Air Force and was of the Methodist faith.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Betty Payne Smith; sons, Patrick Smith, Sean Smith, Steve Bishop and Johnny Payne; daughters, Patricia Lloyd, Beth Kennedy and Betty Bellue; sisters, Janet Bagdazian and Jackie Smith; a brother, Bob Smith and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Tony Bishop and brothers, George Smith and Richard Smith.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Newberry Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Tri County Hospice, 13795 C.R. Koon, Highway, Newberry, SC 29108
