Dorothy A. Cook

Dorothy Agatha Bodie Cook, 92, of Prosperity, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024 peacefully at Newberry Memorial Hospital.

Born in Joanna, March 28, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Jesse Elias Bodie and Nancy Estelle Shealy Bodie. Dorothy was retired from Wometco Vending Company where she worked for many years. She was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Dorothy loved to make plastic canvas crafts, doing yard work, sitting on the porch and spending time with her family. 

Surviving is her daughter, Wanda Oliveto of Prosperity; a sister, Marzelle Free of West Columbia; grandchildren - Marty Meade, Katie (Charlie) Harvey, Chris (Tonya) Spells, Kevin Spells (Christin); great grandchildren - Dante Meade, Deanna Meade, Charity Harvey, Justin, Jacob & Kason Spells, Caitlin Branch, Kody Jones & Sarah Smith. Along with so many more family members and friends than can be counted.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Drayton Cook; a daughter Clara Meade; great grandson Austin Harvey; Sisters - Virginia Marrow, Beatrice Bobb, Janet Hawkins, Edna Neal & Betty Kibler. Brothers - Wallace Paul (Jack) Bodie, Thomas Bodie & Ervin Bodie.

A funeral service for Dorothy will be conducted on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 3:00 pm from the Chapel of McSwain-Evans Funeral Home, 1724 Main Street, Newberry. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.

The family would especially like to thank those who have joined them in prayer, called, texted, messaged and emailed. It has been a difficult time and your kind words will never be forgotten.
