Dorothy Derrick

Dorothy Phillips Derrick, 87, of Greenwood, widow of James Luther Derrick, Sr., died Saturday, December 12, 2009, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

She was born on April 13, 1922 in Royston, GA. Mrs. Derrick was a member of Woodfields Baptist Church of Greenwood and a former member of Epworth United Methodist Church of Joanna.

She is survived by grandchildren and their spouses, Nathan Gurney, Derek and Cheryl Gurney, Aaron Gurney, Wendy and Greg Derrick, Jamie and Josh Couey and Phillip and Jennifer Derrick and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, James Luther Derrick, Jr.; a daughter, Patricia Derrick Gurney and brothers, Blease Phillips, Bill Phillips and Pete Phillips.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at Woodfields Baptist Church by the Rev. Wade Burton. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Memory Gardens in Clinton. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Children’s Program of Woodfields Baptist Church, 1708 Marshall Road, Greenwood, SC 29646.
