Dorothy Mae Waters Hawkins, 90, of Newberry, died Monday, November 20, 2017, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born on June 4, 1927, in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Ben and Lillie Hawkins Waters. Mrs. Hawkins was retired from Old School Manufacturing. She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, a member of the Ebenezer Ladies Club and a former Sunday School teacher.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Thomas Edward Hawkins; a son, Wayne (Melma) Hawkins of Ninety Six; daughters, Marie (Jerry) Cohen of Newberry and Connie Summer of Columbia; sisters, Betty Schumpert and Frances Connelly both of Newberry; brothers, Frank Waters of Greenwood and Earl Waters and James Waters both of Newberry; six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. Mrs. Hawkins was predeceased by a sister, Bennie Lou Shealy.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jimmy Counts. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:30 – 1:30 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. The family will be at her residence. Pallbearers will be Michael Cohen, Daniel Summer, Jeff Bickley, Caleb Bickley, Colby Bickley, Jacob Wilburn and Matt Furlong.
