Drayton T. Wicker, 79, of Pomaria, died Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born on June 1, 1937, in Newberry, he was a son of the late Drayton Jefferson and Mary Koon Wicker. He was retired after 55 years of service with the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Mr. Wicker was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Lower Newberry County Farmers Association. He served in the S.C. National Guard and was a member of St. Philip's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Stone Wicker; daughters, Susan Wicker Terry of Pomaria and Nancy (Earl) Wicker Alford of Newberry; a sister, Caroline W. Shealy of Pomaria; a brother, Julius H. (Alice) Wicker of Pomaria; grandchildren, Johnathan Earl Terry, Kent Coleman Alford and Mary Helen Alford; a special friend, Tiffany Lynn Lusk and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Friday, September 30, 2016, at St. Philip's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Philip's Lutheran Church, 2461 St. Philip's Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108 or to the Pomaria Rescue Squad, PO Box 192, Pomaria, SC 29126.
Active pallbearers will be Jeff H. Wicker, Dan Graham, Philip Sligh, Thomas Livingston, Jackie Harris and Carl Fulmer.
