William Dudley Griffin, 80, of Newberry, husband of Mary Lou Wicker Griffin, died Saturday, October 30, 2010, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on April 9, 1930, in Newberry, he was a son of the late Loyce and Gertrude Mitchell Griffin. Mr. Griffin served in the Army National Guard and was retired from Newberry College. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he had served on the Church Council, the Homecoming Committee and was active in the Lutheran Men in his younger years.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Mary Lou Griffin is his daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Bobby Long of Newberry; grandson and his wife, Daniel and Jessie Long of Newberry; granddaughter and her husband, Kristina and Bennie Ouzts of Prosperity and great-grandchildren, Daniel Long II and Marley Long. He was also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Mr. Griffin was predeceased by his siblings which included a brother, Roscoe Griffin and sisters, Azilee Harmon, Blanche Allen, Annie Ruth Riddle, Vonnie Chapman and Dollie Gilliam.
Funeral services will be conducted at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pomaria, SC, on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. Brent Nichols. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will be at his residence, 1931 Smith Road, and will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Monday at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
