Duke Arthur Speight, 80, of Spartanburg, died Thursday, February 4, 2016 at his residence.

Born on November 12, 1935, in Edenton, NC, he was a son of the late William and Besse Copeland Speight. He was an Army veteran and was a retired Journeyman and was a member of Sheet Metal Local 100 Washington, D.C. He was a member of various coin, stamp, and real estate clubs.

Mr. Speight is survived by his wife Janie McLane Speight; a son, David (Lavenia) Simmons of Little Mountain; daughters, Dianne (Ron) Matlock, Marcia (Steve) Shealy, and Kristy (John) Egan all of Columbia; a brother, Richard Speight of Takoma Park, MD; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Rachel Howard and Hariett Johnson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm Monday, February 8, 2016 at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. John Stoudemayer. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the committal service in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to Gentivia Hospice, 905 E. Main Street, Ste. 2, Spartanburg, SC 29302.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Burt Elkins, Will Gossett, Josh Simmons, Curtis Hollis, Franklin Cheeks and Seth Elkins.
