Earl Jennings Griffin, 56, of Pomaria, died Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Palmetto Health Richland.
Born on September 13, 1952 in Newberry, he was a son of Mary Ellen Keaton Griffin and the late Armour Jennings Griffin. Mr. Griffin was a graduate of Newberry College. He was retired after 32 years as a loving teacher from Newberry High School where he taught English and French. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he was a choir member for over 40 years, a member of the Adult I Sunday School Class and a former church councilman.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Pomaria are his sisters, Barbara (Mike) Ware and Linda Griffin both of Pomaria; a brother, Randy (Lynn) Griffin of Lone Star; nieces, Amy (Roy) Corley and Carson Ware; nephews, Chris Griffin and Bucky Ware; great nieces, Savannah Corley and Maggie Corley; a great-nephew, A.J. Ware; special family friends, Patricia Aldridge and Heather Arnold, and many other loving relatives.
He loved teaching and was able to help many students reach their highest potentials. Earl loved reading, gardening, visiting relatives, and spending time helping others. He will be greatly missed by many people.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church by the Rev. Kathy Harris. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Ware, 1062 Griffin Road, Pomaria and will receive friends Friday from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund, 209 New Hope Road, Pomaria, SC 29126.
