Berlie Edwin “Edd” Wicker, 96, of Prosperity, widower of Jane Shealy Wicker, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023, at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born on March 13, 1927, in Pomaria, he was a son of the late Walter B. and Fairey Heller Wicker. Mr. Wicker was a World War II Army veteran and retired from South Carolina Electric and Gas VC Summer Nuclear Plant. He was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church where he was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class and the newsletter team. He was an Honorary Life Member of the SC Lutheran Men in Mission and a Committee of 100 member. He was a member of the American Legion Post #24 for over 70 years and 40 & 8 Voiture 1342. Mr. Wicker was the Grand Marshall of the Prosperity Christmas Parade in 2019. He enjoyed being outside and working in his yard. He will be remembered by the Byrd Street Walkers and his Prosperity Food Lion Fan Club..
Mr. Wicker is survived by sons, Emmett E. Wicker of Prosperity and Kevin S. (Diane) Wicker of Walterboro; daughters, Anna W. (Lee)Sease of Burnsville, N.C.and Edwina K. Wicker of Prosperity; grandchildren, Rev. Naomi Sease (Chandler) Carriker, Arden Sease (David) Curry, Benjamin L. Wicker, and Rev. Rebecca G. Wicker; and great-grandchildren Cyprus Collins, River Collins, Jonathan Carriker. He was predeceased by a brother, James E. Wicker and a sister, Nellie Ruth Welborn.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Grace Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jane Mitcham. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 5:30 - 7:30 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church, Building Loan, P.O. Box 188, Prosperity, S.C. 29127 or to the South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers, 6053 Two Notch Road, Batesburg-Leesville, S.C. 29070
Active pallbearers will be Allen Gallman, Chief Wesley Palmore, Kyle Vaughn, Billy Yarborough, Dalton Shealy, and John Pugh.
