Frank Edward “Ed” McLeod, Sr., of Newberry, died Sunday, August 31, 2014, on his 84 th birthday, at Palmetto Health Richland.

Born on August 31, 1930 in Newberry County, he was the son of the late John Robert McLeod, Sr. and Azilee Satterwhite McLeod. He was a faithful and dedicated employee of the Torrington Company until he retied in 1997. After retirement, he enjoyed raising beef cattle, growing coastal Bermuda hay, and gardening. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and attending horse shows. He was a member of Bush River Baptist Church, Joyful Hearts of Bush River Baptist Church, Bush River Young Farmers, Newberry Cattlemen's Association, S.C. Walking Horse Association, and N.C. Walking Horse Association.

He was married to Sadie Genobles McLeod for sixty years. He is survived by daughter, Beverly McLeod of Newberry; son, Eddie McLeod (Darlene) of Newberry, grandchildren, Elizabeth McLeod and Bobby McLeod; brother, Robert McLeod (Phoebe) of West Columbia; sister-in-law, Catherine “Kitty” McLeod of Newberry, granddog, Mitsy; nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, J.C. McLeod of Newberry.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at Bush River Baptist Church by the Rev. Brian Preston and Rev. Michael Whitesides. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Bush River Baptist Church, 8935 Bush River Road, Newberry, SC or to Palmetto Health Hospice, PO Box 352, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Jason Bishop, Terry Gugel, Josh Long, Kevin Satterwhite, Steve Satterwhite and Bobby Shuler.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Joyful Hearts.
