Edwin G. Thornton

Edwin Gaines Thornton, 89, of Prosperity, died Sunday, December 27, 2009, at his residence.

Born on January 13, 1920, in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Gaines and Grace Garrison Thornton. He was retired from Spartan Insulating Company, was an Army veteran and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Nelda Miller Thornton; sons, Michael E. Thornton of Houston, TX and Mark H. Thornton of Greenville; a daughter, Beth T. Charles of Conway; a brother, Lewis Thornton of Greenville; sisters, Emily Ramer of Nashville, TN and Eloise Pace of Greenville; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Chuck Byrd. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.
