Elise Hawkins Bedenbaugh Martin,96, of Prosperity, died Saturday, October 15, 2016 at White Oak Manor of Newberrry.

Born in Prosperity, on July 7, 1920, she was a daughter of the late George I. and Rilla Epting Hawkins. She was a graduate of O' Neal High School in Prosperity and received a Business Certificate from Newberry College. She retired from Belk of Newberry. She was the oldest member of Grace Lutheran Church of Prosperity where she was a former choir member and Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of the Alter Guild, the W.E.L.C.A. the Leisure Hour Group, and she chaired the Worship and Music Committee. She was a member of the Iris Garden Club and Woodmen of the World Chapter 1054. She loved gardening, cooking, playing the piano, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Martin was twice married. First to the late William Woodrow Bedenbaugh, Sr. and second to the late H.C. Martin.

She is survived by her sons; G. Roscoe (Peggy) Bedenbaugh and William W. “Billy” (Libby) Bedenbaugh, Jr. both of Newberry; Lewis R. (Nancy) Bedenbaugh and Steve C. (Edith) Bedenbaugh both of Prosperity; a daughter, Bunny (Dwight) Wessinger of Irmo; a step-daughter, Brenda M. (George) Pitonyak of North Carolina; 9 grandchildren, Karman (Wendy) Bedenbaugh of Hickory Tavern, Brad Bedenbaugh of Newberry, Aaron (Kay) Bedenbaugh of Connecticut, Hannon (Deena) Bedenbaugh of Newberry, Laura Bedenbaugh and fiance, Jamie Vannoy both of Ohio, Maria (Jonathan) Morgan of Greenville, Joanna Bedenbaugh of Newberry, Tyla (Craig) Bowers of Prosperity, and Lisa W. (Evan) Williams of Atlanta, GA; 6 great-grandchildren, Henry and Ella Bedenbaugh of Connecticut; Laban and Brooks Bowers of Prosperity, Brandon (Amanda) Cromer and Bryton Cromer both of Hickory Tavern; 2 step-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy H. Wise of Newberry and Reba H. (Earl) Weisner of Aiken; and a brother-in-law, John A. (Judy) Bedenbaugh of Prosperity. She was predeceased by brothers; Bittle Hawkins, Woodrow Hawkins, and an infant brother, Curtis Hawkins; sisters, Arlie Frazier, Alda Rae Pugh Amick, and an infant sister, Bertie Lee Hawkins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 17, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church of Prosperity by the Rev. Michael Price. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:30 - 7:00 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 188, Prosperity, SC 29127.

Active pall bearers will be Karman Bedenbaugh, Brad Bedenbaugh, Aaron Bedenbaugh, Hannon Bedenbaugh, Evan Williams, Craig Bowers, and Jonathan Morgan.

Honorary Pall bearers will be her nieces and nephews.
