Elizabeth M. Werts

Sara Elizabeth Monroe Werts, 91, of Newberry, widow of William F. (Fred) Werts, Sr., died Tuesday, July 12, 2011.

Born on January 5, 1920, in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late C. Vernon and Lula Bradley Monroe. Elizabeth was a member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan W. (Ben) Seely of Newberry; a son, W.F. “Bill” (Judy) Werts, Jr. of Laurens; a sister, Emily Meyerholtz of Clinton; three nieces; a nephew and the delight of her heart her grandchildren, Leigh Davenport, Kathy Kunkle, Clark Werts, Blake Werts, Kevin Werts, Stephen Werts and Steve Seely. She was blessed with great-grandchildren, Jonathan Davenport, Mackenzie Davenport, Wil Kunkle, Alex Kunkle, Kori Kunkle and Brooklyn Werts. Mrs. Werts was predeceased by a brother, Claude Monroe.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2011, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Scott Hill. Burial will follow in Smyrna Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Smyrna Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 32 Smyrna Road, Newberry, SC 92108.
