Ellen Vivian Epting Shaw, 84, of Newberry, widow of Stephen F. Shaw passed away peacefully on September 2, 2023, at the J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home.

She was born on February 2, 1939, in Newberry County to the late Eugene Lee and Annie Lou Shealy Epting.

She had a fulfilling career at Greenwood Mills from which she retired after 47 years.  Ellen's tireless work ethic and unwavering dedication earned her the respect and admiration of her coworkers and friends.

Beyond her professional achievements, Ellen found true joy in giving back to her community and church. She held steadfastly to her faith throughout her life and found solace in teaching Sunday School at St. James Lutheran Church where she was a lifetime member. She was a cherished member of the South Carolina Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), where she found immense fulfillment through fellowship with other like-minded women. Their collective efforts to support local initiatives brought hope to countless individuals facing adversity.

In addition to her involvement within religious circles, Ellen was an active member of the Bush River Activity Association. Through this organization, she fostered strong bonds with community members who shared her passion for promoting the well-being of others. Ellen devoted countless hours volunteering at local events, leaving an indelible impact on all whom she encountered.

With her passing, Ellen leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and compassion that will forever be imprinted on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her sons, Stephen Allen Shaw (Denise) and Lee Franklin Shaw (Lisa) both of Newberry; a sister, Margaret Ann Oswald of Lexington, grandchildren, Amy S. McEntire (Mayes), Jimmie Lee Shaw (Katie), Tabitha S. Harmon (David), Allison S. Plumblee (Michael) and Michael Shaw (Callie) and nine great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by a sister, Clara Jean Burnett.

A celebration of Ellen's life will take place on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 4:00 pm at St. James Lutheran Church by the Rev. Rodney Gunter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church 228 Jalapa Road, Newberry, SC 29108.
