Essie Dickey Epting, 95, of Joanna, widow of William Holland Epting, died Friday, May 11, 2018 at Springfield Place.
Born on November 1, 1922, in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Charley and Mattie B. Milam Dickey. She owned and operated Essie's Beauty Shop in Joanna for 53 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Providence Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Clinton. She enjoyed working in her yard with her flowers and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Merchant and her husband Gregg of Kinards; grandchildren, Gregg Holland Merchant of Kinards, Heather Tapia and her husband Vidal of Joanna, and Hannah Marie Merchant of Charleston. She was predeceased by a brother and 5 sisters.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, May 14, 2018 in Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Lawrence Peebles. The family will receive friends Monday morning from 9:30 until 10:30 AM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Providence Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 701 S. Broad Street, Clinton, SC 29325 or to St. Jude Childrens Recearch Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The family would like to thank the nurses and aids of unit 4 at Springfield Place for their love and care.
Active pall bearers will be Gregg Holland Merchant, Vidal Tapia, Clayton Yochem, Johnny Cockrell, Kelly Long, and Austin Long.
