Ethel Cook

Ethel Sligh Cook, 91, of Newberry, widow of J.C. Cook, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on June 6, 1918 in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late James William Jacob and Rose Lee Bobb Sligh. Mrs. Cook was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where she was a member of the WELCA and the Essie Hawkins Circle.

She is survived by a brother, Ralph E. Sligh and wife Marie of Newberry; a sister, Doris Richardson and husband Gerald of Prosperity, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 PM Saturday at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family is at the residence of her niece, Marian Sligh, 1965 Smith Road, Newberry and will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 until 8:00 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4056 St. Luke’s Church Road, Prosperity, SC 29127, the Activities Dept at White Oak Manor, 2555 Kinard Street, Newberry, SC 29108 or to a charity of ones choice.
