Ethel May Wright Harrelson, 91, of Prosperity SC, died August 3, 2009, at Agape Senior in Conway.
Mrs. Harrelson was born on February 28, 1918, in Spring Hope NC, the only daughter and youngest child of the late Arthur A. and Bertha Crawford Wright. She graduated from Hallsboro High School in 1935. She and our father, the late James Jason Harrelson, were married on June 9, 1940, in Conway. The marriage lasted 63 years, until his death on 07/17/03. During their marriage, they lived in Whiteville NC, and Charleston, Florence, and Barnwell SC. They retired to Prosperity SC, where they enjoyed fishing on Lake Murray and traveling throughout the US and Canada.
She was an excellent seamstress, gardener, hunter, fly fisherman, Atlanta Braves fan and critic, and cook. She grew up during the Depression and as a result, there was always much more on the table than we could possibly eat. She was never satisfied until everyone was full. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Her brothers, Granville, Freeman, Philip, Olin, Howald, Arthur, Pembroke, Kenneth, and a great granddaughter, Chelsea Armstrong, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands; Kay and J.W. Peagler, of Bonneau, Jay and Ted Scott, of Leesville, and Linda and Boyd Gainey, of Conway. She leaves two granddaughters; Karen P. Capps and Wanda P. Mayfield, and six grandsons who will serve as pallbearers; David, Tommy, Ron, and Jason Scott, Kevin Peagler, and William Gainey. She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves a dreadful parrot, named Polly.
