Eugene Lee Lipscomb, 87, of Prosperity, died Monday, November 29, 2010, at 8:50 a.m. at home.
Born on October 16, 1926, in Gaffney, he was a son of the late Howard and Mabel Armstrong Lipscomb. He was a World War II Army veteran having served in the Signal Corps. He retired from IBEN #102 as an electrician. Mr. Lipscomb was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and the Men’s Choir. He was a member of the Prosperity Masonic Lodge #115 AFM, the Hejaz Shriner’s, American Legion Post #24 and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Pennsville, NJ. He was a member of the R.S.V.P. Singers for 20 years.
Surviving is his wife, Willie Mae Banks Griffin Lipscomb; sons, Rodney (Sarah) Griffin and Wesley (Helen) Griffin both of Newberry; brothers, Howard Garrett (Inge) Lipscomb and Tommy (Zoila) Lipscomb both of Prosperity; sisters, Mary Carroll Halfacre of Newberry and Juanita (DeLeon) Beltz of Chester; a sister-in-law, Mary O. Lipscomb of Newberry; grandchildren, Jill G. Riebe, Tammy G. Rice, Shay G. Dube, Dina McCormick, Kara Cannon and Neil Dipner; great-grandchildren, Rowdy, Griffin and Bailey Rice, Linda Dube, Katelyn Warren and Blaine McCormick; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Lipscomb was predeceased by a son, John Reginald Griffin; a grandson, James Benson Griffin, brother, Broadus T. Lipscomb and a daughter-in-law, Linda Cook Griffin.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Lowry Drennen and Rev. Gary Pierstorff. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
