Evelyn N. Long, 89, of Silverstreet S.C. and Columbia S.C. passed away on Thursday August 6th at Palmetto Health Richland.

Born in Silverstreet, S.C. she was the daughter of Richard Clark Neel and Lucille Fellers Neel. She graduated with a business degree from Newberry College. Mrs. Long believed in service to others. She volunteered for many years with Palmetto Health Hospice of the former Richland Memorial Hospital often serving in the children’s cancer unit.  She was a volunteer in the library and gift shop of the Lowman Home and visited patients at the Rice Home for many years.  She enjoyed attending Living Springs Lutheran Church in Columbia, South Carolina where she was a member. Previously while a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church, she served in a leadership capacity with the S.C. Women of the ELCA.

Surviving are three children, James Neel Long (Michele) of Lake Mary, Florida, daughter Anne Long and son Russell Clark Long both of Columbia, S.C, grandchildren, Rhett Long (Pam) of Lake City, S.C., Heidi Long Boulware (Andy) of Okatie, S.C., Amber Newby (Kevin) of Batesburg, S.C., and six great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband, James H. Long.

Mrs. Long lived a full and happy life. She had a special relationship with “her God”.  She loved nature.  She adored her children dearly and, God willing, never missed a single event that they were involved in. She leaves with her family strong Christian values and many happy memories. Evelyn was truly an everyday disciple of God. She believed in sharing love for one another, and had a very special talent of uplifting anyone she met.

A memorial Service will be held at Living Springs Lutheran Church in Columbia S.C. on Tuesday, August 11th at 11:00 a.m.  Visitation will be held at Living Springs Lutheran Church Fellowship Room following the service.

Graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, August 11th at 3:00 p.m.  by Rev. Eric Fink of Living Springs Lutheran Church and will be located at Rosemont Cemetery, College Street, in Newberry, S.C.

The family wishes to express sincere thanks to Dr. David Isbell of Columbia Heart, Dr. Kaoru Pridgen of Colonial Family Practice and the staff of Regency Hospice for the quality care given to her.

Memorials may be sent to Living Springs Lutheran Church at 4224 Hard Scrabble Road, Columbia, SC 29223.
