Fred David Riley, 90, of Prosperity, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, May 6, 2024.
Born on April 12, 1934, in Saluda, he was a son of the late Thomas Scurry and Lula Werts Riley. Mr. Riley served 10 years in the South Carolina National Guard and worked in the textile industry for many years. When in his 60’s he attended Piedmont Technical College and later took a job that he greatly enjoyed at LoRex Drugs.
David was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where he sang in the church choir for over 30 years. He was a member of the Newberry Community Choir for a number of years and also served on the Prosperity Rescue Squad.
David enjoyed coaching and mentoring many young boys and girls in the community. For relaxation he enjoyed hunting and fishing (especially catching crappies at Lake Murray).
David never met a stranger and was always full of life.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edna Boland Riley; sons, David (Lisa) Riley of Florence and Jason (Joy) Riley of Cayce; daughters, Lisa (Craig) Farr of Prosperity and Debbie (Bart) Dominick of Newberry; sisters, Alice Gene Stewart of Gaston, Lauris (Marion) Jeffcoat and Doris (Bobby) Carver both of Columbia; grandchildren, Jennifer (Bain) Chandler, Josh (Shelbie) Riley, Justin Farr, Kimberly (Austin) Lane, Sarah Dominick, Drew Dominick and Rebekah Dominick; step-grandchildren, Luke Shealy, Ben Shealy, Aaron Shealy and Larkin Shealy as well as great-grandchildren, Riley Chandler, Luke Chandler, Cannon Nell Riley, Maddie Rae Riley and one great-granddaughter due in September and number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Tommy Riley.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Grace Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jane Mitcham. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Little Mountain. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm in the Good Shepherd Room at Grace Lutheran Church in Prosperity.
