Faye Shealy Kinard, 96, of Prosperity, S.C., passed away at White Oak Manor on Sunday, August 26, 2012. Mrs. Kinard was born in Little Mountain in 1916. She was predeceased by her parents George Holland and Mary Ella Haltiwanger Shealy, five sisters (Eva Stoudemire, Hallie Lindler, Tillie Watkins, Annice Shealy, and Lois Shealy) as well as three brothers (Holmes, Worth, and Maxie Shealy).
She married Otis Clyde Kinard in 1940. They had two children George Clyde Kinard, Sr., and Mary Carolyn Kinard Tisdale. Faye was a hard working homemaker and farm wife who carried her love of cooking into food- service jobs at Mid Carolina High School, Mid Carolina Club, SLED Bldg. Cafeteria in Columbia, Newberry College, and again at Newberry College where she retired at age 82. Her love of cooking also inspired her years of service to the Jolly Street Community Center.
“ Miss” Faye was a devoted member of Bachman Chapel Church having faithfully attended Holy Trinity and at times Capers Chapel in Little Mountain in her early years. At Bachman Chapel, she was a Life Member of the ELCA and Circle I. She loved to sing and shared her talents in the choir until her health began to fail. She and Mr. Otis served as leaders of the Luther League for many years. She and her sister-in-law Sara Mae Day were a driving force in the Bachman Chapel Bereavement Committee.
She was presented a life membership in the Eastern Star for her many years of service with this organization.
She lost her first husband when he was killed by a falling tree in 1974. She married Otis Neblett in the early 1980’s. They enjoyed many years of farming and travel before his death.
“ Miss” Faye was an avid Clemson fan. She attended almost every home game until her health began to wane. Tailgating with her was an experience. The food was the equivalent of a Sunday dinner. She enjoyed many bowl game trips with family and friends, also.
