Floy Long Eargle, 85, of Prosperity, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Friday, December 2, 2016, at Palmetto Health Richland.

Born on September 2, 1931, in Prosperity, she was the daughter of Rufus Ira and Frances Livingston Long. She was a graduate of Columbia Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1952 and served her community as a nurse with the Newberry County Health Department for 30 years. Floy was an active lifetime member of Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church where she served as organist for over 50 years, as well as a member of the choir, WELCA and confirmation teacher. She shared her unwavering faith and commitment to Christ and the Church with her family, providing a beautiful example of a Godly life.

Always compassionate, she cared for family, friends, and neighbors and will be remembered for the love she gave. She enjoyed bringing people together. She made family gatherings and nursing school class reunions possible, creating cherished moments for all. She was blessed to be close to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored. Her heart and home were always open.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, Elon Eargle; daughter, Elona Rhame of Irmo; sons, Gordon (Jackie) Eargle and Neal (Kathey) Eargle of Prosperity; grandchildren, Ellen (Robert) Pottharst, Jaclyn (Russel) Sease, Robert (Katherine) Rhame, Eric (Briana) Eargle, Reece Eargle, Seth Eargle and Kallie Eargle and great-grandchildren, Jackson Sease, Elon Sease, Virginia Rhame, Gordon Sease and Robert Pottharst. She was predeceased by sisters, Verta Overbeek and Emma Dudis, and brother, Boyd Long.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, December 5, 2016, at Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church by the Rev. Bobby Morris. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:30 – 7:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the church, Po Box 678, Prosperity, SC 29127.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
