Frances S. McGinnis, 87, of 1402 Azalea Drive, Newberry, S.C. and widow of W. Charles McGinnis formerly of 12066 Bush River Road, Kinards, S.C. passed away on January 23, 2018 at the Hospice House of Laurens. She was born in Wilmington, N.C. on August 3, 1930 to the late Lemuel H. Smith and Daisy Olena Herring Smith.
Frances was a graduate of Broughton High School and continued her education and passion to become a nurse by attending and graduating in September 1951 from Rex Hospital School of Nursing in Raleigh, N.C. and receiving her RN degree. She was Head Nurse and taught nursing at Ohio State University. Eventually she and Charlie moved to Newberry County where she worked at Newberry County Memorial Hospital and later in private practice for Dr. Ralph Baker and then for Dr. Elbert Dickert from which she retired. After retirement, Frances went back to Newberry County Memorial Hospital as a volunteer and remained a volunteer until the young age of 85. She was bestowed the honor of Volunteer Emeritus by the Newberry County Memorial Hospital Volunteers. Frances' love of nursing and those she helped over the span of her career was remarkable.
Frances joined Aveleigh Presbyterian Church in 1962 and in 1999 was awarded an Honorary Life Membership to the church. As a church member she was involved with the Women's Circle # 2, taught the Truesdale Sunday School Class and attended as many church fellowships as her time would allow.
