Mr. Fred Raymond Harmon, 98, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at Veterans Victory House in Walterboro, S.C. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruby Elizabeth Berry Harmon in 2004. Mr. Harmon was born on May 11, 1926 in Newberry, S.C. And was the son of the late Charlie Harmon and Carrie Mae Parrot Harmon. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. He was one of The Greatest Generation. He was fortunate to be able to get a seat on one of the Honor Flights to visit Washington and various memorial sites. This was a great privilege for him, and one of the highlights of his life. He was founder and president of Harmon Pulpwood and Logging, Inc. and he enjoyed working until he was 90 years old. His success in business was attributed to his honesty, strong work ethic and good rapport with others.
God was always the stabilizing force in his life. He became a faithful member of Queen Presbyterian Church on November 20, 1949. He served as deacon, elder, clerk of session and Sunday School superintendent. He served on the building committee, as well as the history and cemetery committees.
Mr. Harmon was also a member of the Amity Lodge number 87 AFM as well as a member of Hejaz Shrine.
He is survived by his children; David Harmon of Newberry, Sharon Cooper (Daniel) of Walterboro, Edith Kinard (Hubert) of Prosperity, Fred E. Harmon (Myra) of Newberry; Sister-in-law, Jeanette Harmon, Daughter-in-law, Sandra Harmon of Newberry; two sisters, Dot Lester of Prosperity, Jeanette Shirey of Newberry, and one brother, Donald Harmon of Newberry. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Rebecca Steen (Chris), David Harmon, Jr., Stacy Kinard (Alecia), Brad Kinard (Katie), Eric Harmon (Angel), and Connie Johnson; Great-grandchildren, Zachary Steen, Christopher Kinard, Tayler Kinard, John Kinard, Elizabeth Kinard, Mary Kinard, Daniel Kinard, Drake Hamby, Danielle Longshore, Gabriel Harmon, and Scott Johnson.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Harmon was predeceased by his son, James Ronald Harmon, and his brothers, Perry Harmon and Terry Harmon.
Funeral services will be conducted in the chapel of McSwain-Evans Funeral Home, 1724 Main Street, Newberry, SC on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 3:00 PM. The family will be receiving friends from 1:30-2:30pm. Interment will be in Queens Presbyterian Church cemetery.
Pall bearers: David Harmon, Jr., Stacy Kinard, Brad Kinard, Eric Harmon, Gabriel Harmon, Zachary Steen, John Kinard, Drake Hamby, and Chris Kinard. Flowers may be given or memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Harmon's memory to The Veterans Victory House, 2461 Sidneys Road, Walterboro, SC 29488, or to Log a Load for Kids.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the excellent care given to their loved one by the Veterans Victory House and by Patriot Hospice and Palliative Care.
The family will be at the homes of Fred E. Harmon, Lindsay Circle, Newberry and Edith Kinard, 1224 Seagull Lane, Prosperity.
