Freddie Wingard

Freddie Lee Wingard, 73, of Newberry, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024, at MUSC Columbia Downtown.

Born on April 29, 1951, in Columbia, he was a son of Roger Stafford and the late Betty Riddlehoover Stafford. Freddie served in the South Carolina National Guard. He was retired from the City of Newberry. He was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and Brotherhood director. 

Freddie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sue Kitchen Wingard; a son, Todd (Hollie) Wingard of Clinton; a sister, Elaine Gambrell of Silverstreet; his father, Roger Stafford of Columbia; a brother, Roger; grandchildren, Nikki (Nathan) Wingard, Benji Wingard and Lynzi Wingard, great-grandchildren, Carter, Avery and Reid Ellington due in December and a special aunt, Carolyn “Rena” Crouch. 

He was predeceased by a son, Michael Wingard and brothers, Bobby and Joseph. 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, July 22, 2024, at Fairview Baptist Church by the Rev. Samuel Cox. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 – 5:00 pm at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. 

Memorials may be made to the Michael Wingard Scholarship Fund at Fairview Baptist Church, 4419 Indian Creek Road, Kinards, SC 29355. 

Active pallbearers will be Mike Johnson, Kevin Dunlap, Pink Johnson, Kevin Evans, Donnie Evans, Wayne Avinger, Nathan Bramlett and Tanner Pasco.
