Gary Lee Harmon, 90, of Newberry, widower of Carolyn Ivey Harmon, died Saturday, March 22, 2025 at his residence.

Born on January 22, 1935 in Newberry, he was the son of the late Enoch Marvin and Marjorie Hawkins Harmon. He was a member of the SC National Guard and a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Gary Lee was retired from Duke Power and the City of Newberry Recreation Department. He also spent several years working and playing at the Newberry Country Club. For many years, he coached baseball and football and was a positive influence on youth in the community.

He is survived by a son, Gary Lee Harmon, Jr. (Mary) of Simpsonville; daughters, Nikki Horne (Mike) of Prosperity and Gina Harmon of Newberry; grandchildren, Deegee VanDonkelaar (William), Jamie Duncan (Heather), Lindsay Duncan, Matthew Duncan (Amber), Lee Harmon (Victoria), Marshall Horne, Ivey Horne (Josh Schneider), Mickey Stroud, Ashlye Parker (Josh), Jackie Stroud, and Addi Darnell (Marshall Johnson).

He was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Belinda Harmon Duncan and sisters Dorothy Davis, Emmie Bannister, Peggy Brannon, and Patsy Miller.

Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, March 24th at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Prosperity by the Rev. Jason Schafer and Todd Sanders. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Baird, Mike Ware, David Livingston, David Gibson, and Larry Bryant.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4056 St. Luke’s Church Rd., Prosperity, SC 29127 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

The family would like to thank Carmen Care and Three Oaks Hospice for their care and compassion for Gary Lee over the last several months.
