George Hallman Sligh, Jr., 75, of Prosperity, died Sunday, June 18, 2017, at his residence.
Born on February 19, 1942, in Newberry, he was the son of the late George Hallman Sligh, Sr. and Cora Wicker Sligh. He was 1966 graduate of Newberry College and was retired from the SC Department of Transportation. Mr. Sligh was a member of St. Philip's Lutheran Church where he was a member of the Adult B Sunday School Class, the Lutheran Men and was a former church councilman and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of the Lower Newberry County Farmer's Association and Woodmen of the World Lodge 1054.
He is survived by his wife, Dovie Suber Sligh; a son, Philip H. Sligh of Prosperity; a daughter, Laura (Eakeath) McCullough of Newberry; granddaughters, Shelby and Emily McCullough; a cousin who was like a sister, Marilyn K. Hendrix of Simpsonville and brother-in-law, Randy (Patti) Suber of Prosperity.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at St. Philip's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick and Rev. Andrew David Eargle. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Philip's Lutheran Church, 2461 St. Philip's Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108
Active pallbearers will be Patrick Meetze, Michael Shealy, Michael Mills, Charlie Summer, Earl Alford and Hannon Bedenbaugh.
All those in attendance are considered honorary pallbearers.
