George Jerry Mundy, Sr.

George Jerry Mundy, Sr., 86, of Prosperity, widower of Wanda Ard Mundy, died September 11, 2010.

Born on May 17, 1924, in Newberry, he was a son of the late E.J. and Lucy Cothran Mundy. He was retired from American Fiber and Finishing and was an Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by sons, Jerry (Karen) Mundy of Whitmire, Kerry (Debbie) Mundy of Leesville, Eddie Mundy and Craig (Trisha) Mundy both of Prosperity; daughters, Deborah Mundy, Sandra Mundy, Cindy Mundy Irons all of Prosperity, and Carol Tyler of Clinton; sisters, Margaret Robinson of Cambridge, MD, and Betty Walker of Walterboro; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, James Mundy, Tom Mundy, Talmedge Mundy, and Robert Mundy; a sister, Louise Daughrity; and a grandson, William B. Irons, Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 12, 2010 at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Charles Clinton. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Steve Mundy, Jess Mundy, Brandon Mundy, Mark Gilliam, Justin Mundy, Thomas Mundy, and Logan Davenport.
