George Monroe

George Eustace Monroe, born on September 29, 1934, in Kewanee, Illinois, passed away on January 14th peacefully after a full and blessed life.

George proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Army, including tours during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His dedication to service exemplified his commitment to his nation and community.

For 68 years, George was devoted to his beloved wife, Nancy Ophelia Monroe, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. He is survived by his daughter, Joni Smith, as well as grandchildren and many great-grandchildren who carry forward his legacy.

In his leisure time, George found joy in woodworking, reading, cheering for Braves baseball and Gamecocks football, watching cowboy films, and enjoying a good cup of coffee. These simple pleasures reflected the warmth and richness of his character.

George’s life was defined by service—to his family, his community, and his country. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
