Geraldine Ruff Harmon, 88, of Prosperity, widow of Harrison Monroe Harmon, Jr., died Friday, May 6, 2011, at J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home.

Born on September 12, 1922, in Pomaria, she was a daughter of the late J. Caldwell, Sr. and Pauline Nance Ruff. Mrs. Harmon was retired from K-Mart, Newberry, SC. She was a lifelong member of St. Philip’s Lutheran Church where she was a member of WELCA, Adult B Sunday School, Joy Fellowship, and was a member of American Legion Post 24 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a loving and devoted wife (59 years), mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was very talented and creative and she enjoyed traveling the U.S., Hawaii, and taking cruises with her husband before his death.

She is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Bud) Koon and her son, Jerel (Marie) Harmon both of Prosperity; grandchildren, Melanie H. (Nick) Shealy of Prosperity, Amy H. (Ed) Geddes of Columbia, Valerie K (Jay) Haltiwanger of Prosperity, Brandon (Ashley) Koon of Belton, and Dean H. Harmon of Prosperity; great grandchildren, Austin and Alexis Shealy, Kendellin Haltiwanger, Rachel Faye and Harper Leigh Koon and Harmon Elise and Madelyn Geddes. She was predeceased by sisters, Frances George, Marguerite Altig, Nelle Dominick, Estelle Young, Katie Ruff and brother, John C. (Sonny) Ruff, Jr. and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, May 9, 2011, from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the St. Philip’s Family Life Center, 2461 St. Philip’s Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult B. Sunday School Class, members of Joy Fellowship, David Lominick, Carl Lominick, Drs. Michael and Darly Bernardo

The family would like to thank the staff of J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home, Tri-County Hospice, and Drs. Michael and Darly Bernardo for their wonderful care, love and support.
