Gladys Eldora Derrick Black, 87, of Prosperity, widow of James Albert Black, died Saturday, April 21, 2018.

Born on March 19, 1931, in Saluda County, she was a daughter of the late Bennie and Lillie Mae Shealy Derrick. She had worked at the Saluda Shirt Plant and was a member of Corinth Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Black is survived by a daughter, Debbie (Tommy) Kunkle of Prosperity; sisters, Gussie Buchanan and Elizabeth Morris both of Prosperity; a brother, James Derrick of Prosperity; a granddaughter, Donna Kunkle; a number of nieces and nephews and her canine buddies, Sassy, Brandy and Boggie. She was predeceased by a brother, Billy Derrick.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Pam Turfa. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to dress casual for Mrs. Black's funeral service.

Active pallbearers will be Allen Derrick, Ronnie Derrick, John Derrick, Charlie Zobel, Frankie Shealy and Kerry Shealy.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Nadine Matthews and the staff of Hospice of South Carolina for their loving care.
