Gurnie Lee Wells, 76, of Newberry, widower of Jimmie Nell Kyzer Wells, died Monday, December 17, 2012, at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home.
Born on May 26, 1936, in Chester, he was a son of the late James A. and Kate Burns Wells. He owned and operated the Pope Circle Grocery.
Mr. Wells is survived by a son, Shane (Melissa) Wells of Newberry; daughters, Jennifer (Jimmy) Penland of Kinards, Patricia (Craig) Mundy and Diane (Billy) Parker both of Prosperity; sisters, Louise Taylor of Newberry, Daisy Idell Moore and Evelyn McGee both of Rock Hill; brothers, Harry O. Wells of Durham, NC and Dan F. Wells of Jalapa; grandchildren, Brad Mullins, Shannon Hamilton, Brandon Mundy, Summer Irons and Autum Irons; great-grandchildren, Torie Hamilton and Corey Sease. He was predeceased by sisters, Sarah Burris and Frances Garnell Gardner and brothers, James E. Wells and Sam Robert Wells.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, December 21, 2012, at Bush River Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Brian Preston. The family will be at the home of Shane and Melissa Wells, 3950 Bush River Road, and will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00- 8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
