Haley Clare Hughes, 22 of Kinards who was born on December 31, 1998, passed after a brave battle with Ewings Sarcoma on October 18, 2021.
Haley was the daughter of Russell and Susan Suber Satterfield and Ben and Tricia Owings Hughes. She is survived in addition to her parents by a sister, Jade Hughes and the love of her life, Howard “Rocky” Pitts.
She was a 2017 graduate of Mid Carolina High School and a member of the Mid Carolina High School tennis team and honors choir. Haley was a proud graduate of Presbyterian College Class of 2021, with a double major in Biology and Art History and a minor in Chemistry. Much of her senior year was completed from her hospital bed while enduring chemotherapy. Haley was a member of the ADPI Sorority.
Such was the determination of this strong and kind young warrior who always had a smile on her face during the toughest of times. Haley became an inspiration for other children with cancer and had developed friendships with many far and wide. She was the light of her Mama and Papa's lives.
A private memorial service will be held for the family due to Covid concerns.
For those friends and loved ones who are left to carry on her memory, please remember Haley in acts of kindness to those in need.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials may be made to Presbyterian College, 503 Broad Street, Clinton, SC 29325 or at https://www.presby.edu/giving/give-now/ (and click the "giving" tab at the top) in Haley's memory. The family intends to establish a scholarship to honor her memory.
