Harold Stone

J. Harold Stone, 95, of Newberry, widower of Pauline Longshore Stone, died November 26, 2017 at Springfield Place.

Born on October 21, 1922 in the St. Philip's community of Newberry County, he was a son of the late John Aubrey and Mary Ruth Kibler Stone. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II and fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and Freedom Baptist Church. Mr. Stone enjoyed woodworking, especially building and refinishing furniture. He loved taking trips to the mountains especially in the fall and for the first snow.

He is survived by a his daughter, Debra Marie Stone of Knightdale, NC; a sister, Mary Sue Nichols of Leesville; a grandson, John Christopher Stone; and his dearest friend and companion, Janie Nichols. He was predeceased by a son, John Randall Stone; and brothers, Roy Stone and Edward Stone.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Bethany Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Robert McCollum and by Rev. Eddie Bledsoe. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
