Harry Robert “Butch” Mowder, 68, of Prosperity, died Friday, October 13, 2017.
Born on May 2, 1949, in Weirton, WV, he was a son of the late Elwood and Pauline Mozingo Mowder. He was an Air Force veteran having served during the Vietnam War. Mr. Mowder retired after forty-three years of dedicated law enforcement as a sergeant from the North Charleston Police Department where he was known for serving as a narcotics and K-9 officer. He was a founding father of the Law Riders Motorcycle Club which is a group of active and retired law enforcement officers who give of their time to help raise funds to assist fellow law enforcement officers and their families who were hurt in the line of duty. He was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church.
Mr. Mowder is survived by his wife, Cynthia Marie Nelson; a son, Brian (Renee) Mowder of Little Mountain; grandson, Blake Mowder of Newberry; a sister, Mary (Bill) Story of Orange, CA; a brother, Ronnie (Judy) Penrode of Follansbee, WV; a sister-in-law, Lynda Clark of Mt. Pleasant; a brother-in-law, Russell Nelson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; nieces and nephews, Ashley Clark of Seattle, WA, Zac Clark of East Jewett, NY and Morgan Clark of Baldwinsville, NY.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Macedonia Lutheran Church by the Rev. Randall Derrick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with law enforcement honors being rendered by the North Charleston Police Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:30 pm Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to Law Riders MC, PO Box 242, Lexington, SC. 29072.
Active pallbearers will be members of the North Charleston Police Honor Guard.
