Harvey Duane Dominick, 76, of Little Mountain died peacefully at Lexington Medical Center while surrounded by his family on Monday, October 4, 2010 . Harvey was born on December 2, 1933 , in Prosperity, SC, a son of the late Rufus and Irene Amick Dominick.
He was one of eight 1951 graduates of Little Mountain High School where he played on the Wildcats basketball team. In 1953 he married his high school sweetheart, Myrtis Long, served in the National Guard and worked for C.A. Frick’s Gas Station. From 1954 until 1956 he and Myrtis were stationed in Los Cruses, New Mexico while he served in the US Army. Upon return to SC in 1956, Harvey and Myrtis built their home which remained his residence on Mill Road in Little Mountain. Truck Driving with Colonial Stores and independent outfits including R.P. Stockman’s and Metts Construction became and remained his career for the next 50 years. He was a lifelong member of St Peter Lutheran Church.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant sister, brother Vernon , and his wife of 42 years, Myrtis. He is survived by siblings JN (Elberta) Dominick of Little Mountain, Eva Leitzsey of Pomaria, children Shirley Metts of Chapin, Keith (Lisa) Dominick of Little Mountain, and Julie (David) Edwards of Chapin, his grandchildren who were the joy of his life: Corey, Patrick and Brandon Metts, Adam, Jack, Jacob, and Tucker Dominick, and Casey, Justin, and Chandler Edwards, dear friend Alex Metts, in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2010 , at St. Peter Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dave Tholstrup. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church, 900 Dreher Island Road , Chapin , SC 29036
