Hazel Wicker

Hazel Wicker, 91, of Newberry died Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Newberry Memorial Hospital.

Born on January 24, 1932, in Prosperity, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Isabell Metts Kinard.

Mrs. Wicker retired from Bell South, now AT&T, after serving 42 dedicated years. She was a lifetime member of Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church. Mrs. Wicker was lovingly known as the family photographer and record keeper. She had a camera with her everywhere she went and was always the one to capture special moments.

She is survived by her sister,  Dorothy Nell Fulmer, brother, Ronnie (Jewel) Kinard, step grandson, Michael Shane ( Monica) Wicker, step granddaughter, Mary Ann Miner and step great grandchildren- Barry Shane Wicker, Mary Michelle and Allison Miner. She was predeceased by her husband, Alton Wicker, brothers, Larry Kinard, Herman Kinard, Wayne Kinard and sisters, Florence Mae Householder and Helen Kinard.

Mrs. Wicker has left behind a host of nieces and nephews that loved her dearly. Many considered her their special grandmother and she loved them as such. She always look forward to family gatherings and never missed their birthdays marked by a special card.  Simple in her everyday life, she was anything but a simple woman. Her mind was strong and her wit was apparent right up to the end.  

The family will be at the homes of Dorothy Nell Fulmer and Ronnie Kinard.  

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church by the Reverend Floyd Sides.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will follow  in the church fellowship hall. 

Pall bearers will be Barry Shane Wicker, Derek Fulmer, Dalton Fulmer, Jake Fulmer, Keenan Boland, Kaleb Boland, Kade Tedder, Carson Tedder, and Bryce Willingham.
