William Henry Barnette, 86, of Prosperity, died Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born on January 29, 1923, in Landrum, he was a son of the late Jesse James and Ophelia Morgan Barnette. He was a World War II Army veteran having served in the 1 st Infantry. Mr. Barnette was the retired owner of Henry’s Barber Shop in Newberry and had taught barbering in Charleston. He was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir and the Francis Asbury Sunday School Class. He was a former Gideon.
Surviving are his wife, Susie Quattlebaum Barnette; daughters, Mickey (James) Waters of Newberry, Mary Dale Barnette of Long Beach, CA and Christina (Michael) Perez of Prosperity; a sister, Pauline Wheat of Blythewood; a brother, Paul Barnette of Nevada; grandchildren, Bobby Waters, Brad Waters, Rhonda Smith, Isabella Perez and Savanah Perez and great-grandchildren, Loren Waters, Brett Waters and Allie Jane Waters. Mr. Barnette was predeceased by his first wife, Mary McEntire Barnette, brothers, Manus, Hilliard and Dyphus Barnette and a sister, Mildred Gibson.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Wightman United Methodist Church by the Rev. Michael Turner. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Wightman United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the WARM Project Fund, PO Box 376, Prosperity, SC 29127.
