Horace N. "Nickie" Kinard

Horace N. “Nickie” Kinard, 84 of Newberry, died June 15, 2016 at White Oak Manor.

Born on February 6, 1932 in Pomaria, he was a son of the late William Horace and Mary Articia Richardson Kinard. He was a heavy equipment operator and was employed by Spotts Construction, Epting Ballenger, and Hunter Brothers Construction. He also worked for Collins and Aikman and retired from South Carolina Electric and Gas-Parr Hydro Plant. Mr. Kinard was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served in the 38 ^th Engineer Panel Bridge Co. and earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a former member of the Mt. Bethel Southern Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, singing, song writing, and bulldozing.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Wicker Kinard; a daughter, Beth Kinard Orcutt (Jon) of Gray Court; brothers, Tommy Kinard (Janet) of Pomaria and Harvey Kinard of Newberry; one granddaughter, Katie Articia Orcutt.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Lonnie Jones. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Active pall bearers will be Jeffrey Kinard, Travis Kinard, Gregg Comalander, Tracy Stone, Doug Wicker, Rodney Wicker, Brett Wicker, Billy Waites, and Max Sternenberg, III.

Honorary pall bearers will be the staff of White Oak Manor, units 1 and 3 and Holly Yarborough.
