Hugh V. Crofoot, Jr.

Funeral services will be held for Hugh V. Crofoot, Jr. at our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Chapin, SC at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2011. Burial will be immediately following at Newberry Memorial Gardens in Newberry, SC.

Mr. Crofoot died Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the age of 55 after a long battle with cancer. Born in Aberdeen, MD, he is the son of the late Martha Zeigler Crofoot and Hugh V. Crofoot, Sr. A 1974 graduate of Dreher High School in Columbia, SC, Mr. Crofoot earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of South Carolina and went on to serve four years of active duty in the United States Navy.

As a professional-level staff member in the state government of South Carolina, he held positions with the Department of Social Services and the Department of Consumer Affairs. He was known in the Columbia area for his passionate and active efforts on behalf of abused and abandoned animals, dogs in particular.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Gayle R. Swanson, and his beloved toy Australian shepherd, Marly.
