Ida Davenport Underwood, 82, of Newberry, widow of Robert C. “Bobby” Underwood, died Sunday, February 10, 2013, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born on September 6, 1930, in Silverstreet, she was a daughter of the late William L. Davenport, Sr. and Lola Hendrix Davenport. She graduated salutatorian of her class from Silverstreet High School and was retired from Lominack Hardware, Inc. Mrs. Underwood was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher, R.A. Leader, Benevolence Committee member and assisted with the nursing home ministry. Over the years she shared her talents on numerous other church committees as well.

She is survived by a son, Robert Michael (Lynn) Underwood of Newberry; a daughter, Marie (Jim) Gregory of Cayce; sisters, Joann Coats of Ninety Six and Winnie (Billy) Senn of Newberry; a brother, Ronald L. (Donna) Davenport of Newberry; grandchildren, Derek M. (Julie) Underwood of Prosperity and Jeremy A. Dawkins of Cayce; great-granddaughters, Bailey and Brooke Underwood. Mrs. Underwood was predeceased by brothers, W. L. Davenport, Jr. and Bobby Davenport and sisters, Lillian Long, Catherine White, Doris Counts, Willard Sease, Myra Trefsgar and Elsie Heller.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harmon. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1020 Boundary Street, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Chris Davenport, Jimmy Underwood, Phil Trefsgar, Steve Long, Jimmy Sease, Eddie Sease, Eric Davenport, Alan Davenport, David Senn and Mark Senn.
