Inez Counts Richardson of Pomaria, daughter of the late Reverend Ernest Karl Counts and Nellie Derrick Counts, died Monday, June 8, 2015 at her residence.
She was born in Jackson, Mississippi on February 27, 1928. The family moved to Pomaria, South Carolina in 1933. She attended Pomaria High School where she played basketball. She was Vice President of Wade Hampton Literary Club and Vice President of her sophomore class. She then moved to Johnston, South Carolina where she graduated high school in 1944. She studied nursing at Columbia College and Columbia Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Richardson was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Pomaria where she was active for many years. She worked most of her adult life with Palmetto State Life Insurance Company, but retired from American Executive Life Insurance Company.
Mrs. Richardson is survived by two daughters, Nelle Richardson Corley (Charles-deceased) and Sheri Richardson Lazenby (Stan) both of Pomaria. She was predeceased by her husband, Ben Gerald Richardson and a sister, Mary Counts Koon both of Pomaria. She is also survived by another sister, Etta Ruth Counts of West Columbia, South Carolina and a special brother-in-law, George Stockman “Stocky” Richardson of Pomaria. She is survived by three grandchildren, Ray Corley, Lisa Corley Tyson and Brittany Smith (Kyle) and two step-grandchildren, Alan Lazenby (Amy) and Scott Lazenby (Catherine) as well as seven great-grandchildren, six step-great grandchildren and a number of nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church by the Rev. Arden Hallman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 209 New Hope Road, Pomaria, SC 29126.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Blue Ridge Hospice of Irmo and to Angel Home Care of Newberry. Also, we would like to express a very “special” thanks to Dana Williams and Debby Winchester.
Active pallbearers will be Ritchie Koon, Woody Koon, Travis Fulmer, Jimmy Bonner, Tommy Griffin and Mike Ware.
Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Carroll Pinner III.
