James A. Black

James Albert Black, 86, of Prosperity, died Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at Palmetto Health Richland.

Born on August 1, 1928, in Saluda County, he was a son of the late James Donald and Louise Dominick Black. He was retired from Kendall Company – Oakland Plant and was a member of Corinth Lutheran Church.

Mr. Black is survived by his wife, Gladys D. Black; a daughter, Debbie (Tommy) Kunkle of Prosperity; brothers, Lewis Black and George Black both of Newberry; a granddaughter, Donna Kunkle and her friend, Lance Cockrell and his children, Zoe and Noah and his faithful canine companion, Brandy. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Black and an infant sister.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday, October 16, 2014, at Newberry Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Pamela Turfa. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society or the charity of one's choice. The family request casual dress for those attending the funeral service.

Active pallbearers will be Randy Black, John Derrick, Doyle Ridgell, Donnie Ridgell, Billy Ridgell, and Jonathan Alewine.
