James Lee Dawkins, 81, of Prosperity, died Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born on February 18, 1931, in Prosperity, he was a son of the late John H. and Ethel Cook Dawkins. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Dawkins retired after forty three years from Hamm Hardware. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of the American Legion, a former member of the 40 & 8, the Newberry Moose Lodge and the Legion of the Moose.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Allene Wise Dawkins; sons, Jimmy Dawkins of West Columbia and Wade (Tiffany) Dawkins of Prosperity; a daughter, Renae (Ken) Long of Little Mountain; brother, Billy (Frances) Dawkins of Prosperity; a sister-in-law, Betty Dawkins of Freeport, FL; grandchildren, Hillary Long (Josh) Barrow, Zach Long, Lane Moore, Jordan Moore and Preston Lee Dawkins. Mr. Dawkins was predeceased by brothers, Travis, Earl, Wendall, and Joe Dawkins.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Monday, July 30, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church by the Rev. Eric Fink. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the Grace Ministry Center at the church one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to any of the church funds at Grace Lutheran Church, PO Box 188, Prosperity, SC 29127.
Active pallbearers will be nephews.
