James Pearl “J.P.” Wicker, 88, of Newberry, widower of Loretta Jackson Wicker, died Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born on June 27, 1928, in Pomaria, he was a son of the late Colie and Mattie Mae Crumpton Wicker. Mr. Wicker served in the S.C. National Guard and retired from the Army Reserves. Mr. Wicker was a diesel mechanic, a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Coffee Cup Campers.
He is survived by daughters, Gwendolyn (Ronnie) Kyzer of Newberry, Connie (Michael) Wood of Columbia, Cheryl (Ted) Butler of Hopkins and Tammy (Robert) Folk of Chapin; grandchildren, Stephanie Fulmer, Rhonda Moore, Brent Lewis, Heath Lewis, Tabitha Prince, Becky Eller, Angelia Rabon, Heather Caldwell, Joshua Cook, Lindsay Wood and James Wood and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by seven siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday, January 26, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brent Nichols. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will be at the home of Mr. and. Mrs. Ronnie Kyzer and will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Playground Fund, 2496 SC Highway 773, Pomaria, SC 29126.
Active pallbearers will be Joshua Cook, Brent Lewis, Heath Lewis, Cliff Prince, Paul Eller and Eric Moore.
