James Edward Satcher, 72, of Newberry, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024, at his home.

Born on September 21, 1951, in Columbia, he was the son of the late James Ludford and Lila Ouzts Satcher. Ed was a 1975 graduate of the University of South Carolina. He worked in textile industry management for a number of years having worked at Milliken and Parkdale. In 1999 he and his wife opened Delamaters Restaurant which they ran for twelve years. He found his greatest pleasure, however, in his working career at Piedmont Technical College as an Academic Advisor where he helped direct young people as they pursued their knowledge for their future working careers.

He had served on the Newberry Zoning Board of Appeals.

Ed loved classic sports cars especially Corvettes and was very knowledgeable about many classic cars. He had a deep appreciation for music and passed that love on to his children.

His greatest love was his family. Having all of his family together brought him the most joy.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Carpenter Satcher; a son, William “Bill” Brunson Satcher and wife, Amanda; daughter, Jane Satcher Moore and husband, Patrick Moore; grandchildren, Birdie Pax Satcher, Della James Satcher, Cormac Edward Ford and step-grandchildren, Isabella Moore, Lainey Moore, and O’Neil Moore. Ed was predeceased by a sister, Jane Satcher Bagwell.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, September 28, 2024, at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Albert Allen. The family will receive friends following the service.
