James Thomas Massey, 80, of Newberry, SC went home to be with his Lord on January 23, 2011.

Born on November 11, 1930, in Burlington, NC, he was the only son of James Franklin and Jennie Walker Massey. He was a disabled Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Whitten Center (SC Dept. of Disabilities and Special Needs). After retirement he was as special needs bus aid for the school district of Newberry until his health failed. He was a charter member of Hollywood Baptist Church.

He is survived by daughters, Pam (Randy) Bickley, Teresa (James) Jackson and Leigh Anne Koutras all of Newberry and Joyce (Thomas) Robertson of Columbia, SC; one sister, Ella Marie Smith of Burlington, NC; one brother-in-law, W.M. Stewart, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Jennie Jackson, Jeremy Jackson, Abigail Sease and Chad Bickley all of Newberry, Hope Evans of Whitmire, SC, Christy Sease of Clinton, SC, Katrina and Brenda Koutras of Athens, Greece; great-grandchildren, Alan and Madison Bickley, Hannah, Haven and Kaleb Evans, Angelica, Christopher and Giovanni Melendez and R.J. Sease; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, wives, Lillian C. Massey in 1965 and Brenda H. Massey in 2008; sisters, Martha M. Stewart and Loreaner M. Rudd and brothers-in-law, Earl Rudd and Wallis Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dan Gardner. Burial will follow in Baxter Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hollywood Baptist Church, PO Box 207, Saluda, SC 29138. The family will gather at the home of James and Teresa Jackson, 458 SC Highway 395, Newberry, SC.

The daughters wish to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff of Warriors Walk Hospice Ward and 4 West at W.J.B. Dorn VA Hospital.
