James T. Wicker, Jr.

James Thaddeus Wicker, Jr., of Newberry, died Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Palmetto Health Richland.

Born on July 7, 1933 in Newberry County, he was the son of the late James Thaddeus Wicker, Sr. and Alliene Free Wicker. Mr. Wicker received his bachelor degree from Newberry College and his masters degree from the University of South Carolina. He was a retired educator retiring as the assistant principal of Chapin High School. He served in the S.C. National Guard for 39 years and was a member of St. Philip's Lutheran Church.

Mr. Wicker is survived by his wife, Mildred Ruff Wicker; a son, Keith (Melinda) Wicker of Irmo; a sister, Faiery Kinard of Prosperity and a granddaughter, Megan Wicker. He was predeceased by sisters, Lois Kibler and Jeanie Rawls.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, August 3, 2014 at St. Philip's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Philip's Lutheran Church Family Life Center, 2461 St. Philip's Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Dr. C. W. Hendricks, John Amick, Terry Rawls, Ricky Kinard, Jerry Myers, Hannon Bedenbaugh and Billy Bedenbaugh.
