James V. “Jim” Thompson, Jr., 68, of Easley, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at his residence.
Born on July 2, 1944, in Laurens, he was the son of Mary Frances Bagwell Thompson and the late Vernon Thompson. He was retired after 35 years from the Army National Guard and after 25 year of civil service work. Mr. Thompson was a member of the American Legion and former member of the Friendly Fire Department.
He is survived in addition to his mother of Laurens by his wife, Marsha Schumpert Thompson; sons, Thomas Bryan Thompson of Beaufort and James V. “Jimmy” Thompson of Easley; a daughter, Tammy Rice of Easley; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and mother-in-law, Doratha Schumpert of Newberry. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Fred Schumpert.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Rosemont Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harmon. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 – 1:30 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Ark Hospice, 101 Grace Drive, Easley, 29640 or Prostate Cancer Research.
Active pallbearers will be Homer Jones, Chester Hoxit, B.J. Thompson, Rowdy Rice, Griffin Rice, Sam Little, Berry Kesler and Britt Skinner.
