Jane Elizabeth Benckert, 66, of Newberry, died Friday, August 23, 2013, at her home.
She was born on November 30, 1946, in Waynesville, NC. Mrs. Benckert and her husband were missionaries in South America for 20 years. She was a graduate of the Rowan School of Nursing and was employed at Newberry County Memorial Hospital for the past 16 years serving as a registered nurse and the Certified Diabetic Educator. She worked part time with Palmetto Health Hospice. Mrs. Benckert was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church where she was involved in the Stephen Ministries.
She is survived by her husband, George Thomas Benckert; a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Debbie Benckert of Germany; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jay Benckert Cumbee of Starkville, MS; sisters, Beverly Smith and her twin sister, Judy Bryant both of Clyde, NC; a brother, Terrell Teague of Six Mile and grandchildren, Abigail Cumbee, James Cumbee and Esm é e Jane Benckert. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ruth Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, August 26, 2013, at Wightman United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dean Lollis. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Wightman United Methodist Church, PO Box 376, Prosperity, SC 29127.
